Stephanie Salzman is a multiplatinum, 4th generation New York songwriter,  composer/lyricist who writes musical theater, for recording artists & opera/concert works.  Her grandmother, great grandparents and uncles performed and wrote for the Yiddish stage. Inheriting her grandmother’s china collection and creative spirit, Stephanie grew up  listening to pop and R&B, collecting vinyl and watching her composer/critic/producer  father Eric Salzman – a pioneer in his field- create avant-garde music theater. His Merriam  Webster quote: “There is a music for everybody” is a mantra in her life and work.

Stephanie studied  opera, composition with Leonardo Balada & Meyer Kupferman. MFA: NYU Graduate  Musical Theater Writing Program; BFA: Sarah Lawrence: LaGuardia H.S.  She speaks  French, plays tennis & resides in Manhattan with her husband and daughter.

CROSSING OVER (co-writer: Deborah Brevoort): Two people from colliding worlds (Amish  & gang world) meet while searching for their identities. USA Artists grant: ASCAP/Lied  Center Inaugural New Musical Theater Festival; development at CAP21, NYC. THE MEDUSA PROJECT (co-writer Sylvana Joyce): A revisionist, feminist re-telling of the  Medusa myth set in 1990’s LA during the rise of indie female singer/songwriters, reading 6/23 at the Jersey City Arts Center.  PSYCHIC (co-writers Joseph Trefler & Jonathan Keebler): A realistic (but mythical &  magical) tale of a mother & daughters’ journey to a Fla. town of psychics to mend wounds. SIMPLE (co-writers Anne Huffines & Dan Pardo): A contemporary story about a family  grappling with the push and pull of letting go and holding on. Reading, Westhampton, NYC LEFT TO OUR OWN DEVICES (co-writer Darrah Cloud): TYA; 2nd Stage Pallas Theater  Winner, Wash. DC; Ronald Ruble Finalist; Caryl Crane Theater, Momentum Fest., NYC.
